Assejazz Big Band

Our big band was born in Seville at the beginning of 2014 (shortly after the creation of Assejazz as an association). It began its activity as a workshop, but little by little it was consolidated and we managed to develop a solid repertoire and a work dynamic that has allowed us to grow.
Until the end of 2017, it is worth highlighting the management work carried out by Javier Ortí. From there, Antonio Olivo takes over, with whom we have worked until 2020, shaping a descriptive repertoire of this musical style from, approximately, the '40s to the present day (Thad Jones, Sammy Nestico, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, etc.). From the beginning of 2021 until today, Javier Ortí returns as director. We are currently facing other projects, among which the repertoire for big band written by the saxophonist Abdú Salim as well as "Tribute Gerry Mulligan", directed by Francisco Blanco "Latino", which we premiered within the 24th Jazz Festival of the University of Seville.

Since its inception, a large number of musicians have passed through our training and the professionalization of the band has made it possible for it to become an increasingly attractive project for the new generations of musicians from Seville, which has led to the level technical and professional of the new incorporations is higher and higher.

We have performed at the main jazz events in Andalusia related to this formation (Big Band Meeting in Clasijazz, Almería, 2018; Big Band Meeting in Torredelcampo, Jaén, 2016, etc…) as well as, among others, in the different festivals organized by the University of Seville – Assejazz or at the El Soberao Jazz Festival (Dos Hermanas, Seville).
